INNISFAIL - Innisfail RCMP now advise that road conditions are extremely poor between Carstairs and Olds on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, also known as Highway 2.

"Officers are responding to numerous collisions (potentially 12) on this portion of the highway," police said in a news release issued at 10:33 a.m. Monday.

"Please avoid the area," police cautioned in the release.

About an hour earlier, police said Innisfail officers had responded to five collisions so far this morning.

"Please ensure to take extra precautions when travelling or consider avoiding travel due to icy roads and blowing snow,"

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning on the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 22 that is still in effect for the areas of Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail – Stettler as well as Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds – Sundre.

Approximately 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is expected to fall.
