The Mike Plume Band, a Canadian country band, is coming to Tracks Pub on Oct. 15 as part of a tour to promote their new album, Born By The Radio.

The show will mark Mike Plume's first time in Olds. During an interview with the Albertan, he said that night, listeners will hear some other tunes, besides songs from the new album.

For example, he said the band has played 8:30 Newfoundland (This Is Our Home) for 10 years.

“I play that every night; that’s in there all the time. So is my So Long Stompin’ Tom, which is probably my next biggest quote unquote hit.”

Plume's tour started in Saint John's, N.L. and is going all the way to Victoria, B.C.

“It’s nice to get out and just go coast to coast. It’s nice seeing that the new songs fit with the old songs within the context of the show,” he said.

Plume is proud of the new album that he says reflects what it’s like to be a 50-year-old man.

“That’s the best I could hope for and I hope there’s a lot of people who can relate to that,” he said.

When putting the album together, it wasn’t Plume's intent to make single radio hits but rather to focus on creating a solid body of work.

“I’m just doing the best songs that I can possibly do. If they’re a radio hit then that’s fantastic, but if they’re not, I’m not going to cry about it either,” said Plume.

Plume says the new album is a good opportunity for new listeners to check out his music.

He also noted that if fans were to go back and listen to his old music, they would notice a consistency.

“I think I’ve been very consistent sonically in my approach to writing songs and recording songs and performing them. I think my approach has been very similar. I hope that I’ve gotten better over the last 25 years.”
