INNISFAIL – The Arrogant Worms are coming to town.

The Canadian musical comedy trio will be performing at the Innisfail United Church on March 10.

“I thought it was an opportunity to bring different entertainment to our town,” said Candice Thomas, one of the organizers for the concert. “We were talking about fundraisers for the church and wondered if The Arrogant Worms were available. I sent an email and they sent a reply saying they’re going to be in the area so we found a date that worked and booked them."

The band's songs are based on the absurdities of life and provide a comical perspective on situations and people, noted Thomas.

Canadian artists Mike McCormick, Chris Patterson and Trevor Strong make up the trio from Kingston, Ont.

Thomas first saw them perform in concert several years ago in Lacombe.

“They were so much fun,” she said.

The Arrogant Worms first began in 1991 as a comedy troupe performing songs and sketches on Queen’s University campus radio in Kingston. They revised their live performances and today continue entertaining audiences with their quick wit, satire and music.

The group has sold more than 160,000 copies of their 14 albums, performed to crowds of more than 100,000 and have gained fans from children to grandparents.

The shows are known to be fast, furious and family friendly.

“It’s not every day we have an act like this here,” said Thomas, noting it’s important to help bring big name acts, performers and musicians to Innisfail.

“It’s good to attract more performers and bring more acts to town. I think that (Innisfail) supports our local performers and artists but to broaden what we bring to town would be awesome,” she added.

Thomas said that bringing the trio to Innisfail helps inform the community of opportunities to enjoy additional entertainment acts and performances here in town.

“We hope that bringing in The Arrogant Worms will also let people know that we have a good venue (at the church) for small concerts,” said Thomas, noting both the sanctuary and the adjacent hall.

“You don’t have to go to Calgary, Edmonton or Red Deer. I think that’s a great opportunity for the community too,” said Thomas.

Tickets for The Arrogant Worms are $30 and are available at the Innisfail United Church by calling 403- 227-3881, Tuesday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and noon or at the door on the day of the event.
