Olds contestants placed highly but unfortunately not high enough to score the big prizes in the annual Olds Idol competition.
According to business owner Jen Casavant, Olds residents Joe Whyte, Vanessa, as well as Jocelyn Hourie placed fifth, sixth and eighth respectively in the competition, held March 10 at the Nite Owl.
She says Nevin Matheson of Airdrie won the competition. Fellow Airdrie resident Tara Laponse came in second. Third place went to MaryAnne Message of Spruceview.
There were 17 contestants in all.
Also during the event, Jim Swinston, who worked the bar, entertained the crowd by performing as Marty Stuart.
That was his last shift. He retired March 10 at age 65 after working at the Nite Owl bar and its previous iterations for 10 years.
Casavant gave him a 10-year trophy/plaque as a thank you for his years with the business.
