A taste of Newfoundland coming to the legion

The Atlantic Storm Band is aiming to put a Newfoundland spin on the concept of dinner and a show when they come to the Olds Royal Canadian Legion on May 2.

The Atlantic Storm Band is aiming to put a Newfoundland spin on the concept of dinner and a show when they come to the Olds Royal Canadian Legion on May 2.The five-piece ensemble, which is originally from the Rock but now calls southern Alberta home, will prepare a steak and lobster dinner for legion members and the public before performing “Newfie-Celtic” music, tributes to legends such as Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, and skits.The band will also hold a traditional Newfoundland screech-in and kissing of the cod ceremony where, yes, attendees can kiss a fish and take a shot of rum.The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and tickets are $50.Tickets are available at the legion.The band asks for $5 from people wishing to take part in the screech-in ceremony.Proceeds from the event and the screech-in ceremony will go towards the legion.
