DIDSBURY - The Mountainview Colts finished off 2023 with an impressive shut-out win against the Rocky Mountain House Rams on Dec. 15.

Played at the Didsbury Memorial Complex, the game saw the locals get goals from Cohen Richardson (assists Blake Stoddard and captain Paton Rothenbusch, James Bartlett (assist Richardson and Emmett Barnett), Wyatt Bailey (assist James Bartlett) and Aidan Saunders (unassisted) for a 4-0 win.

Colts netminder Jordan McGinnis got the shutout, stopping all 29 shots sent his way.

The win gives the Colts a 9-10-5 record so far in the Heritage Junior B Hockey League 2023-24 season. The Colts are in third place behind Sylvan Lake in first and Rocky in second.

Haiden Parks leads the team with 28 points so far this season, followed by Richardson with 24 and Bailey with 22.

Head coach Dan Visser called Friday’s win a great example of team play.

“I was very pleased with the boys’ effort,” said Visser. “Being short with suspensions, injuries and sickness, they came to play.

“We are a young team and I believe we are developing and getting better every day. I’m very pleased with the rookies on the team and how they are adapting to junior hockey and getting better every game.”

Every player on the team is getting to know his role and “that keeps the guess work out of what they are supposed to do,” he said.

Looking forward to the 2024 portion of the season, he said, “We have to bear down in the last part of the season and string some wins together.”

Colts players and coaching staff are all thankful for the fine community support of the team this season, he said.

The Colts are back in action on Jan. 5 against the Ponoka Stampeders in the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
