DIDSBURYThe Mountainview Colts are in Rocky Mountain House Friday against the Rams, and in Sylvan Lake on Saturday against the Wranglers.

“(This) weekend is going to be huge for us and we need to put in our best effort if we want to hold onto second place,” said Colts coach Dan Visser.

After three straight wins, the Mountainview Colts dropped two games last weekend against north and south division opponents.

The team was at home against the Red Deer Vipers in the Didsbury Memorial Complex on Friday Jan. 26.

The Colts got goals from Haiden Parks (assists Paton Rothenbusch and Wyatt Bailey), Cohen Richardson (assists Aidan Saunders and Emmett Barnett), Wyatt Bailey (assists Rothenbusch and Parks) and Richardson (assists Steven Bell and Bailey) in a 5-3 overtime loss.

Colts netminder Brock Lott stopped 27 of 32 shots.

The Colts were also at home Saturday against the High River Brewing Co. Flyers.

The locals got goals from Bell (assist Tanner Austin), Bailey (assists Bell and Richardson), Trenton Hirsche (assist Saunders), and Bailey (assist Bell) in an 8-4 loss.

Colts netminder Jordan McGinnis stopped 32 of 40 shots.

Visser said, “As a team we really need to play a full 60 minutes. When we have a lead we need to learn how to lock it down and don’t let the other team back in.

“Making simple plays, and making the right plays, is key to pulling out some wins.”

The Colts currently have 13-12-6 record this 2023-24 Heritage Junior B Hockey League season.

The team is back at the Didsbury Memorial Complex on Feb. 9 against Sylvan Lake.
