Sundre's council recently accepted, with regret, the resignation of the municipality's interim chief administrative officer.

Appointed to the position last May, Angie Lucas informed council during its Feb. 27 meeting of her desire to resign as interim administrator effective March 10 due to an increasingly large workload in trying to fulfill her regular duties as director of planning and operational services.

Citing some examples of the numerous projects that have kept her schedule packed, she mentioned among others the following: the broadband public consultation strategy; the Centre Street North reconstruction ó a $2.2 million capital expense that needs to be "watched like a hawk"; the impending Alberta Transportation pilot project on Main Avenue "that is taking up a huge amount of my time right now"; and the landscaping that must be completed around the new Mountain View Seniors' Housing facility.

Additionally, "we have yet to start the tourism development strategy. We have yet to get back into the economic development strategy. I've yet to start the request for proposals on the area redevelopment plan for the East Side, which will be enormous," she said.

After listing several other projects like the five-year capital plan and housekeeping matters such as reviewing the land use bylaw as well as preparing for changes to the Municipal Government Act, Lucas told council, "That's just a flavour of what I'm working on, so that's the reason for my request."

Mayor Terry Leslie expressed his and council's gratitude for her efforts.

"You have shepherded us through the last 11 months and taken all the other stuff that we have thrown your way," he said.

"The information that you bring us is articulated very well, you hold us accountable, if we ask a question about what the options are you're crystal clear with those."

Council carried a motion to accept Lucas's resignation as interim administrator.

The mayor said council would endeavour to ensure an acting CAO is in place by March 17.
