SUNDRE – Members of the local skating club recently performed some routines inspired by a variety of hit sitcoms.
The Sundre Skating Club had previously been considering hosting its annual season windup ice carnival under a Toy Story theme, but in the end opted to branch out towards including a more generalized theme featuring a variety of television series.
So on Sunday, March 4 at the Sundre Arena, the club’s roughly 35 skaters went with the theme “As Seen On TV” that included a mix of group as well as solo interpretive dance numbers to popular shows like Golden Girls, SpongeBob Squarepants, The Big Bang Theory, Friends, The Office, Law and Order, Full House, Grey's Anatomy and Corner Gas, said instructor Lyndsay Edgar.
“It went very, very good,” Edgar told the Albertan. “I was very happy with the turnout and I believe all the skaters did wonderful.”
The approximately 35 skaters represented a mix of levels including four Canskate or learn-to-skate groups as well as a pre-Starskate, a junior Starskate, and a senior Starskate groups, said the instructor.
“It actually turned out quite big,” she said.
With the season now wrapped up except for the club’s annual awards night and year-end party for club members on March 19, she said the past few months had been very busy.
“We as a club attended five or six fun meet slash competitions,” she said, adding the skaters all put in a lot of hard work on their assessments.
“Picking awards this year was very difficult,” she said. “They all wowed me.”
Edgar also wanted to extend her appreciation to both the club’s board members as well as the volunteers who all got involved to make possible not just the ice carnival but also the entire season.
