The annual Sundre Community Awards and Volunteer Appreciation night will be held June 2, officials announced.

The event is held to recognize and acknowledge local groups, individuals and businesses for “outstanding citizenship, services and volunteerism,” said chamber president Sherri Tykanych.

“I think it's important to recognize people who make a difference in our community,” she said. “Hopefully that will entice other people to step up to the plate and help make the community better.”

The event is co-sponsored by the Sundre and District Chamber of Commerce and Greenwood Neighbourhood Place.

As in past years a number of awards will be presented: Business of the Year, Employee of the Year; Employer of the Year; Ambassador of the Year (given to individual, business or group that actively promoted Sundre); Exceptional Parenting; Social, Recreational and Cultural Award; Sundre Spirit Award; Sundre Sustainability Award; Outstanding Volunteer; Youth Volunteer; Youth Leadership.

Nominations for the various awards are now being accepted. All nominations must be in by May 2 to Greenwood Neighbourhood Place.

A group representing the chamber, GNP, FCSS and a community member at large will be choosing the recipient of each award. Only one individual or group will be chosen for each award.

Nomination forms are available at the chamber website, at sundrechamber.com.
