Carstairs curlers win provincials berth at U15 south zone qualifier

Nine teams competed at the Sundre Curling Club rink Feb. 2-4 for chance play in provincials later this month

SUNDRE – Nine U15 curling rinks competed at the Sundre Curling Club last weekend for their chance to qualify for a spot at an upcoming Alberta Curling provincials event.

The club hosted the south zone qualifier Feb. 2 - 4, with the nine teams that came out from Calgary, Airdrie, Okotoks as well as Carstairs competing for seven spots in the 2023-24 U15 Provincial Playdowns being held later in February in Lacombe.

Hailing the event as very successful, Glen Smith, who was among the Sundre Curling Club’s members who got involved to help organize the event, said “This is the first event like this hosted by Sundre Curling Club in years.”

Smith expressed gratitude not only to all of the teams that participated but also everybody who pitched in to help make the event possible as well as businesses that donated in support of the event.

• Qualifier No. 1 – Team Bachek from Okotoks

• Qualifier No. 2 – Team Clark from Calgary CC

• Qualifier No. 3 – Team Gugliemin from Calgary Winter

• Qualifier No. 4 – Team Padget from Okotoks

• Qualifier No. 5 – Team Sipka from Calgary CC

• Qualifier No. 6 – Team Meyer from Carstairs

• Qualifier No. 7 – Team Burgess from Airdrie
