The beautiful wild horses of Alberta need your voice.A letter from Alberta Sustainable Resource Development dated Oct. 18, 2007 stated that there are 200 to 300 wild horses in the province. These numbers have been relatively constant over the last 25 years. But in an article in a Calgary newspaper published April 19, 2012, SRD officials say there are around 1,000. This is biologically impossible. In Alberta wild horses have been subject to mindless cruelty. The real danger for Alberta forest, wildlife and thousands of grazing cattle is not wild horses but millions of pine beetles. Every year, thousands of hectares of forest must be burnt. Damage is costing the province $300 million over seven years. In Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Sable Island there exists legal protection of wild horses. In Alberta, it is refused.Join us in our efforts to protect and preserve the wild horses of Alberta and write to:The premier of the Province of Alberta307 – Legislature Building10800 97 Ave.Edmonton, ABT5K 2B1V.
