Save Sundre hospital's long-term care beds

It is with great frustration that I write this letter.

It is with great frustration that I write this letter. I am frustrated that Alberta Health Services seems to think that it is OK to close down basically half of our hospital, potentially laying off nurses, affecting housekeeping staff, health-care aides and numerous others who have made our little hospital what it is today!

We are proud of our community and greatly appreciate the new building that Mountain View Seniors' Housing will be operating, but we must keep in mind what we are losing.

Currently, the 15 patients in long-term care have all miraculously been reassessed and are all able to transfer to the new centre, but what about the patients who will need the care that only our current hospital can provide?

We are losing 15 beds at a level of care that will not be provided in the new facility. Yes, current long-term care patients are covered, but what about when their level of care needs changes?

We all understand that Sundre will not be able to keep patients who need specialized equipment such as respirators and so on. That is not what we are asking for. But we do want to keep the level of care currently provided by the long-term care at the hospital.

We need to stick together to try to save these beds!
