New face to the Province team: reporter moves over from Didsbury

Hello Innisfail,

I’ve decided I will never make it as a column writer. My first assignment when arriving at the Province last week was to punch out a 300-word column introducing myself. Which means I had to pull something together without interviewing or researching. It turned out to be the hardest assignment I was given, even though I knew it was coming as far back as June.

I’ve been eyeing the move to Innisfail for some time. I started out with Mountain View Publishing in 2010 at the Carstairs Courier before moving over to Didsbury. Justina Contenti, the previous reporter, was on her way to her next gig at the time I discovered my partner received a job in Innisfail. Since then, things clicked into place.

Knowing for two months I’d be on my way to Innisfail, I’d mull over in my free time all the things you may want to know about me. Here’s what I came up with.

As I’ve mentioned I’m moving up here from Didsbury after just under a year as the reporter there. If you recognize my name it’s possibly because you’ve seen my byline in the Mountain View Gazette. I had the Red Deer County beat for about six months and will be taking over coverage again starting Sept. 6. I also met a couple of great people during a farmer’s bonspiel in Didsbury last year – hello Murray and Edna Stringer! And thanks for teaching me the game!

I’m looking forward to learning more about Innisfail and what makes it tick. So far I love the walking and biking trails. Please help me discover more. Drop me a line at [email protected] or give me a shout at the office – some of the best stories I’ve ever written started with a tip.

See you around.
