Letter: Stop projecting your desires on others

If I need help fighting for a cause I believe in, I'll ask
opinion

I'm just going to put this out there.

For those of you supporting the blockades and part of "freedom" 2022: stop saying you are doing this for others. Stop saying you're doing this for those who "can't" or "won't" do it themselves. Stop projecting your insecurities in your own values and beliefs onto people who neither asked for, not require your aid in standing up for what they believe. I realize that by saying this, you are trying to justify your behaviours and personal morals, but it is insulting to all those people you say you're doing it for. Guess what, I'm a big boy. I even put on my own clothes and drove myself to work this morning! A job where I'm required to be vaccinated. I was given a choice: be vaccinated and continue to help ensure my hospital can care for others, or quit and find employment elsewhere.

I happily chose to be vaccinated. Even though I could easily have refused and found employment elsewhere! Yep, you read that right, I wanted to get vaccinated. I, of my own free will, decided that. I didn't need your permission. I wasn't coerced. I don't need someone to fight my battles for me. I fight my own battles, when and if I find them. I'm educated, rational thinking, and fully capable of doing all that (and more) all by myself! I don't care what you believe, I really don't. I couldn't care less in the grand scheme of things, to be frank. But don't feed me a line that you're doing it for anyone else but yourself. Own up to your choice. That's right, it's your choice. My issue is when your choice starts to effect my way of life, my ability to get supplies, my ability to get groceries, my ability to get meds for my chronically ill child.

We both made a choice. The difference is, my choice makes it so people can continue to maintain a certain level of free health care, a choice I believe has a positive impact on society. Your choice has done nothing to benefit anyone at all... When and if I need your help fighting battles and for causes I believe in, I'll ask it. Until then, take credit for your own actions without projecting those actions onto others. Own your choices, and keep them for yourself.

Don't include others as unwitting supporters of your cause.

Bowden
