Letter: Canada sure beats the policing alternatives of another nation

Does Mountain View County councillor support a separate police force for every city, town, village, and hamlet, asks letter writer
opinion

Re: Re: RCMP need to focus on catching criminals: Mountain View County councillor

I recently read that a certain member of Mountain View County's government claimed the RCMP was not doing its job. Maybe he has been watching too many American TV crime shows where the “good guys” solve all the crimes in an hour’s time.

Instead, he should consider watching Hudson and Rex or Due South since they have less violence; less emphasis on “shoot them-up and blow them-up” activities.

Questions: Has this individual ever been a police officer? Is he a supporter of a provincial police force to replace the RCMP? Does he support a separate police force for every city, town, village, and hamlet? Does he want local sheriffs in every community like Sheriff Matt Dillon in the western TV series called Gunsmoke

Does he have any ideas how much it would cost to replace the RCMP with a provincial police force? With local police forces? Has he looked at the negative factors? Maybe he should look at all the problems associated with police work in America. There are over 18,000 different police organization in the U.S.

Canada is not perfect, but it sure beats the alternatives that we see in the U.S.
