Doctor's Appreciation Day, or as it is known in many parts of the world, National Doctor's Day, is an internationally recognized event, held annually around the world.

The purpose of setting aside this day is to recognize and show appreciation to our physicians for their dedication and work in our society. Attracting and retaining physicians is a critical component of community and regional development.

In India it is celebrated on July 1, in Cuba on Dec. 3, and in Canada and the U.S.A. on March 30.

As chair of the Olds Institute's Physician Attraction and Retention Committee, I would like to express our thanks and appreciation to our local team of physicians serving our community and the surrounding region on this National Doctor's Day, March 30, 2014.

We recognize the work you do in the Medical Centre, at the hospital, the college and in our seniors' housing facilities.

Thank you for having chosen to work in our community.
