Bergen rock sculptures nice, but money could be spent elsewhere

I was reading about how the Town of Sundre is considering buying some rock sculptures to put on display as a tourist attraction around Sundre ñ to a tune of around $100,000 each.

I was reading about how the Town of Sundre is considering buying some rock sculptures to put on display as a tourist attraction around Sundre ñ to a tune of around $100,000 each. Are they thinking about or considering buying a few? I think this is just swell.

Does our Town of Sundre have a flush account in which they don't have anything else to spend those monies on? My concern is not that these rock sculptures are not worth that money, but as a taxpayer I think (maybe a few other taxpayers feel the same) our town needs to think about using that surplus of money elsewhere.

We have a lot of beautiful sights within our town to attract tourists all year long. I feel we don't need this expensive attraction to attract our few delinquents who are just waiting for things like this to trash, adding to the cost to fix. Does the Town of Sundre have enough extra cash flow sitting around to fix these sculptures if vandalized, and how much will be set aside to repair them?

Here are a few suggestions I think the Town of Sundre could invest its monies in:

ï The roadsÖ(lots of much-needed repairs). Can't do them, not enough in the budget.

ï Keep the small playgrounds and put extra cash into maintenance, instead of taking them away as they feel they are too expensive for maintenance costs for upkeep.

ï Hire more summer students to cut the grass on surrounding green areas on a regular basis, so they don't have to rush and choose the least amount of ones that need cutting when the town has an event going on.

ï Weed control in the Town of Sundre.

ï How about the maintenance of the ball diamonds, regular cutting and gopher control?

ï Grade the back alleys regularly.

ï Sponsor a children's program for the summer.

ï More snowplowing budget to cover other parts of Sundre streets, not just main roads.

ï How about some incentive or assistance for small businesses in the Town of Sundre that are struggling to keep their doors open. Take a look around and see that there are as many empty buildings as there are businesses in Sundre.

These are just a few items off the top of our blue-collar worker heads. We all work in Sundre, we all pay huge taxes each year and they keep going up.

I'm sure if the mayor and her councillors just look around they will find stuff that could use this funding that has been set aside for such frivolous spending.
