The Alberta Medical Association (AMA) Achievement Awards are the highest honors bestowed by the organization.

We are seeking nominations for individuals who have contributed to the improvement of the quality of health care in Alberta. Nominations must be submitted by April 30. Awards will be presented at the AMA annual general meeting to be held in September in Edmonton.

The AMA Medal of Honor is awarded to a non-physician who has raised the standards of health care and contributed to the advancement of medical research, medical education, health-care organization, health education and/or health promotion to the public.

The AMA awarded two individuals with the Medal of Honor in 2015: Glen B. Baker of Edmonton and Alvin Libin of Calgary.

The AMA Medal for Distinguished Service is given to physicians who have made outstanding contributions to medicine and the people of Alberta and, in the process, have contributed to the art and science of medicine while raising the standards of medical practice.

In 2015, three physicians were recognized with Medals for Distinguished Service: Dr. Norman R.C. Campbell, Dr. Luanne M. Metz and Dr. Eldon A. Shaffer, all of Calgary.

For more information about these individuals and their accomplishments, visit the AMA website at www.albertadoctors.org or, to request a nomination form, please contact Janice Meredith, administrator, public affairs, AMA, at [email protected] or telephone 780-482-2626, ext. 3119.
