A town of heroes

I was travelling recently with three friends in a motorhome on Highway 22 southeast of Sundre, when we were involved in an incident that resulted in all of us, vehicles and all, mired in a muddy ditch.

I was travelling recently with three friends in a motorhome on Highway 22 southeast of Sundre, when we were involved in an incident that resulted in all of us, vehicles and all, mired in a muddy ditch.

Little did we know that we were about to experience the innate kindness, generosity and caring of the community of Sundre.

Along came Hero #1, Les Larson, who not only stayed with us the five hours we were stranded, but also assisted in getting us out of the mess, and led the way into town for a desperately needed washing down.

Not satisfied with that much, he and his wife Sonya made their own vehicle available to escort us all to a local restaurant to eat, and made sure we were safely settled for the night.

Next morning, Hero #2 entered the picture – Colleen at the Truck Wash - who ensured our needs were looked after, made the assistance of her employee Joe available to help us, and tracked down some needed mechanical service.

Here we met Hero #3, the mechanic Josh at Partco Truck, who went out of his way to make repairs efficiently and quickly to get us back on the road.

There were several other citizens who helped in small ways, but whose names I did not note down.

There is no doubt in my mind that Sundre is a community of caring folks who take pride in treating visitors with unparalleled kindness and courtesy. I want to offer my deep and sincere gratitude to all involved.
