OLDS — Local throwing athletes won five gold medals during the Indoor Track and Field Championships March 2-3 in Edmonton.

Natalie Harrison won gold by more than a metre in the U16 shot put, a personal best (PB).

Liam Banks obtained double gold in the open men’s division with a season-best in shot put and a toss in the 35-pound weight throw.

Coach Rachel Andres also won double gold in the open women’s division: one in the 20-pound weight throw and another in the shot put.

Shroeder also obtained a PB in the U18 weight throw to finish in 10th place.

“Indoors this year has been a struggle with our facilities, so we’ve only had four throwing practices since the beginning of 2024,” Andres wrote in an email.

“But the performances were good considering our lack of being able to practise.”
