1955 - 2024

Debra Maxine Wilson (Thiessen), born June 24, 1955, in Three Hills, Alberta, to Roy and Jeanne Thiessen, passed away on February 24, 2024, in Didsbury, Alberta.

Debbie was the oldest of four siblings. Debbie attended elementary school in Linden for her first three years before the family relocated to Three Hills, where she would graduate from high school.

She was always focused and diligent, receiving top marks during her school years. Her outlook was bright and positive, spreading that among peers and family wholeheartedly, loyal with a heart of gold. Her siblings fondly recall the school lunch years when she baked up a storm of goodies on nights before school days, even rousing awake the younger ones from their early bedtimes with the baked aromas.

After completing her school years, Debbie moved to Calgary, where she settled. She was successful in the job world and enjoyed opportunities working in the oil industry during its boom. It was in Calgary that she met Ian Wilson, and they married. They remained in Calgary until Ian’s retirement, then shortly afterward moved to Didsbury.

Debbie had various job skills that she could employ online after their move to Didsbury. After her parents also eventually moved to Didsbury, her role became caregiver through the various stages of their lives. She retired from working, and not long after, her husband passed away from his battle with cancer. Debbie was also diagnosed with cancer soon after.

Debbie trusted in Jesus, her Savior, to whom she gave her heart and followed.

Family and friends know about the love she had for God. She will be remembered for the close bond between her nieces and nephews. Her beauty and brightness radiated that love outward from within. Her desire was that others could know the same.

Debbie was predeceased by her husband, Ian Wilson, and her father, Roy Thiessen.

She is survived by: her stepchildren, Russel (Jackie) Wilson (Emmett and Clark), Heather (Clayton) Olson (Cassidy and Connor); brother-in-law, Doug (Jeanette) Wilson; mother, Jeanne Thiessen; siblings, Rob Thiessen (Tina), Kelly Thiessen (Ruth), and Cheryl Penner (Chester).

The family would like to thank Dr. Brunner and staff at the Didsbury Hospital for the kind and gentle care for Debbie while she was in their care.

In keeping with Debbie’s wishes, there will be no funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to a local charity of choice.
