Vipond, Norma - Oval

Nov. 22, 1939 – May 28, 2022

Norma Vipond passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the age of 82.

Norma was born and raised Norma McGregor in the Ottawa Valley at Deep River, Ontario. She was the oldest child of John and Vera McGregor, both deceased, with 4 sisters, Joyce, Linda (deceased), Betty-Ann, and Lorena and 3 brothers, Jim, Johnny, and Greg.

In 1961, she graduated from Nursing School in Pembrook, Ontario and in the following year married Raymond Vipond (deceased 2019) whom she met while Raymond was working at Chalk River, Ontario. Norma and her husband then moved to the Town of Didsbury in 1962 to help operate a multigenerational family farm and moved to the original homestead west of Didsbury in 1970 when her husband’s parents retired.

Norma worked for more than 30 years as a registered nurse at the Didsbury Hospital and with Alberta Home Care at the same time as raising 2 sons, participating in all their activities, as well as those of the farm. Nursing was the perfect career for Norma as she was a kind caregiver, genuinely concerned about the health and welfare of others.

Norma was also a talented pianist, sang in choirs, was a member of the Women’s Institute, curled, worked with ceramics, knitted, and crocheted. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, international travel, gardening, and was always amazed by the beauty of good flowers.

Norma retired in 2005, moving back to the Town of Didsbury with her husband.

Norma is lovingly remembered by her two sons and their families, Grant Vipond (Joyce Greenfield) of Didsbury and Darryl Vipond (Kelly Bokenfohr) of Calgary; and four grandchildren, Devon of Vancouver, Wyatt of Saskatoon, Nathan of Calgary, and Rowan of Milan.

Norma was a loving part of her family’s lives and is fondly missed. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
