April 28, 1928 -  December 14, 2022

Our hearts are filled with sadness at the loss of our Dad (Grandfather/Great Grandfather), Glen Thompson. He passed away peacefully at Aspen Ridge Lodge in Didsbury at the age of 94.  He was strong and determined, never losing his sense of humor even with his dementia. This energiser bunny finally ran out of juice!

Glen was born in Provost, Alberta, his parents trying to carve out a life, farming. In 1935 the family moved from Provost to Millicent and then several years later bought a farm seventeen miles west of Didsbury. Glen loved animals and as a boy had a horse, Diamond and a dog, Bruno. He worked hard around the farm thinking one day he would be farming himself.  It was one of the biggest disappointments in his life when he realized it was not to be. While attending Didsbury High School, Glen met Gwyn Morgan and in 1949 they married and had four children.  In the early years of their marriage, he worked construction (mostly with Shannon Construction).  Later he worked as a grain buyer for UGG then as an operator for Canadian Superior until his retirement in 1990.  Glen worked part time delivering fertilizer to supplement his retirement income so they could spend winters in their Mesa home. Over the years they had many adventures and wonderful memories.

Glen was very active in the community.  He was a member of Kinsmen, K-40’s, Elks and the Legion, volunteering his time to support the activities and projects of each group.  He was athletic, playing sports was always a part of his life.  He not only played sports but coached Little League baseball and minor hockey as well.  He enjoyed baseball, curling, downhill skiing and golfing.  Glen skiied until he was 83, golfed until he was 88 but he never quit dancing! Glen had a great sense of humor and was often the instigator of jokes and pranks. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.  Always laughing, always the host with the most, making people feel comfortable and welcome.    Glen was rich with the love of his family and friends!

Glen was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Gwyn; daughter-in-law, Michele; granddaughter, Cara; younger brother, Bryce; older brother, Junior and parents, Della and Osborne. He is survived by his children, Rory Wolf (Tim), Terry Russell (Gary), David, Cam (Bev Plantz); Grandchildren, Kimberly Russell (Kevin), Kelly Wolf (Shelly), Avy Wolf (Corey), Mackenzie Benjamin (David), Lisa Lenyk (Quentin), Brett Thompson, Julia Leskis (Trent).  He is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Danielle, Cole, Kai, Noah, Lukas, Kade, Delayne and Zane as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was so proud of his family!  We will miss him dearly. Our hearts are broken but his is now whole again!

The family would like to thank Aspen Ridge Lodge for their loving care.  Many of his caregivers were exceptional.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain View Senior Housing Foundation, re: Aspen Ridge Lodge.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Didsbury entrusted with arrangements. 403-335-4773. Condolences may be made or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com.
