Elli Steuer, 90, of Sundre, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Sundre Hospital (Myron Thompson Health Centre) September 14, 2021.

Elli was born September 26, 1930 in Berasina, Romania to Edward Hiller and Emilie Bienemann. She was second child born to Edward and Emilie. Elli was displaced in World War 2 when she was a teenager and was separated from her parents. Elli and her sister; Paula were sent to work as housemaids in Poland. It was a difficult time that the sisters overcame together. At the end of the war they were reunited with remaining family members through the Red Cross. After the war Elli's mother immigrated to Canada but Elli decided to live in Germany. Elli met her future husband Fredrich Wilhelm Steuer in Germany. They were married in Germany in September and welcomed their first child, Erhard Steuer on May 29, 1954 to their family. In 1956 they immigrated to Canada. They landed in Halifax and endured a week long train ride to arrive in Calgary to start a new life. Elli was happy to be reunited with her mother, sister and brother in Calgary after years apart.

Elli went to work cleaning houses, offices & schools. She was a very hard worker. While her husband Fredrich went to work doing a variety of construction jobs. After a few years the family decided to travel south to San Fransisco in a 1951 Ford truck. After a short stay in San Fransisco they decided to move to Santa Rosa however at that time work was hard to come by so they moved to Washington. While in Washington the couple suffered the tragedy of losing their premature baby daughter; Carol. It was a difficult year and they decided to move back to Calgary. After a few years of living and working in Calgary the couple purchased a half section of land in Crammond, Alberta. While they still lived and worked in Calgary they continued to build their farm and homestead in Crammond on weekends. It was hard physical work but they really loved being out at the farm; it was a dream come true. Elli had a green thumb and grew a large garden each year. She had several beautiful house plants and was an excellent cook. Their second son; Ron was born in Calgary on May 8, 1964 completing their family.

Elli's biggest challenge was the loss of her beloved husband in 1997. She was a woman of faith who attended the Faith Luthern Church regularly volunteering at the church when needed. We are grateful she is with the Lord now and at peace.

Elli was predeceased by her husband Fredrich, daughter; Carol and her parents as well as her brother, Alfons. She is lovingly remembered by her sons and their wives; Erhard & Jane, Ron & Sherry-Ann, sister Paula. Grandchildren; Julie (Lyle Jackson), Brian (Heidi Overguard) Steuer, Jessie Rimmer, Adam & Erin Steuer. Great Grandchildren; Layne Jackson, Sam, Scarlett & Scottlynn Jo Steuer. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and close family friends.

A celebration of life will take place at later date. Any memorial donations may be made in Elli's name to the Sundre Hospital Futures Committee to go towards the building of a new facility or a charity of choice. (Sundre Hospital Futures, Bag 3 709 1st Street NE Sundre, AB TOM 1X0)

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Sundre Hospital (Myron Thompson Health Centre) for exceptional care in Elli's final days. We knew she was in the very best place receiving the very best care.
