February  14, 1933 - February 22, 2023

Ruth Smith, beloved wife of Ron, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Longterm Care, Trochu on February 22, 2023, at the age of 90 years.

She was born in Tofield, Alberta on February 14, 1933, to Peter and Christine Lauritzen who were immigrants from Denmark. Ruth moved to Dickson when she was 12 and finished her schooling there. Ruth married Ron Smith of Wimborne on April 15, 1961. They built their home on Poplar Haven Farms and enjoyed nearly 57 years of marriage there. Ruth loved life on the farm! She enjoyed baking as well as gardening and canning, always had a houseful of cats and dogs and was known by all as an amazing cook. If you were lucky enough to land at Ruthie’s house for a meal, you knew you would leave well fed!! Ruthie loved being a mother and grandmother best of all! Her best days were those spent in the company of her family!

Ruthie was always very proud of her Danish heritage. She visited Denmark with her parents when she was 5. Ruth spoke fluent Danish and loved celebrating her Danish traditions with her family. She was blessed to be visited by many relatives from Denmark over the years and was always so excited to have them in her home.

Ruthie was a kind, generous, extremely hard-working woman who will always be remembered for her deep love of family, friends and community. She was truly an angel on earth! Ruthie will be forever remembered and sadly missed by her loving children Cara and Pokey Frere, Garnet and Myrna (Winther); her adoring grandsons and their beautiful girlfriends Blair and Bree (Watts), Shane and Michelle (Hoppins), Jason and Bailey (Haeberle); step-granddaughter Kimberley (Frere) Istace, her husband Len and their sons Ryder and Tucker; sisters-in-law Cleo Ross, Donna Bennett, Kristine Smith and Annette Smith as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Ron; her parents Peter and Christine Lauritzen; her in-laws J.O. and Becky Smith; brothers-in-law Robert Smith, Gary Smith, Walter Lee, Jimmy Ross, Bill Bennett and nephew Larry Lee.
