1927 - 2021

Mr. Jacob Slofstra passed away at Rosefield Care Centre, Innisfail, Alberta on November 7, 2021 at the age of 94 years.

He was born April 20, 1927 to John and Laudina Slofstra in Diemen, The Netherlands. Jacob earned a certificate in baking while in Holland, which became his life’s work.  He immigrated to Canada in the early 1950’s.  His wife Anna, arrived shortly after to a freshly prepared home in Calgary.  John, Jenny and Deanna were born while in Calgary.  The family moved to Coronation, Alberta after about five years.  The next stop was in Invermere, British Columbia where Christine and Alice were born.  While there, he was employed by the Quality Bakery.  Following that, they moved to Bellevue, Alberta and finally to Innisfail, where Audrey was born.  He worked at the Bowden Correctional Institute from which he officially retired in 1986.

Anna passed away in April 1981.  Jacob was married to Elizabeth (Lia) Procee in 1992.  Lia filled his retirement years with much enjoyment as they kept house together, gardened and they delighted in travelling and seeing different sights.  If you popped in on them in the morning, you would likely find them sharing a cup of coffee and a Dutch cookie together.

The six children of Jacob and Anna are John (Cheryl) Slofstra, Jenny (Brad) Perin, Deanna (Darrell) Jeske, Christine (Brian) Richard, Alice (Andy) Aschenbrenner, and Audrey Slofstra (Harvey) Moore. Jacob had seventeen grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren.  The four children of Elizabeth (Lia) are Aaltje (Robert) Grant, Sid (Maria) Procee, Cindy (Ron) Schurink, Alan Procee.  Lia has eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
