Allaine “Ally” Sande (nee Fairhead) passed peacefully in her sleep on December 29, 2022 at the age of 78.

Allaine’s childhood years were spent travelling and living on Canadian Air Force bases in Europe and Canada with her family. In the 1960’s she was working in Calgary where she met her first husband, Pete Van Tighem. The city girl embraced the country way of life. They raised four children (Tyler, Tammi, Tanya, and Tyson) in the Shepard/Indus farming community. Allaine was an active and valued volunteer with local youth clubs, including figure skating, hockey, and 4-H.

The family moved to Carstairs in the early 1980’s where she continued her community involvement. Once her children were in high school, Allaine got her driver’s license and began her career as a Recreation Therapy Assistant at the Didsbury Hospital. It was there that she met her current husband, Garry Sande. They enjoyed camping, family gatherings, and travelling to the United States for Allaine’s 4th of July birthdays.

Allaine will be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness as well as her artistic talents.

Allaine was predeceased by her parents – Allan and Barbara Fairhead, son – Tyson Van Tighem, and nephew – Ronald Praeker.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband – Garry Sande; sisters – Wendy Redekop (Rolf Roding) and Heather Fairhead; children – Tyler Van Tighem, Tammi Van Tighem (Ron Daley), and Tanya Soltis (Scott Soltis); grandchildren – Sawyer Daley, Shallaine Daley Sharpe (Brandon Sharpe), Cassidy Daley, Kaitlin Soltis, Lindsey Soltis, and Gavin Johnson; great granddaughter – Harlow Sharpe; stepchildren – Scott Sande (Lisa Sande) and Ryan Sande (Corynn Wylie Sande); step-grandchildren – Leif Sande, James Main, and Kennedy Cardinal.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the wonderful care provided by Dr. Kelly and the Old’s Hospital Palliative Care staff. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Cancer Research Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Condolences for the family can be emailed to [email protected].
