May 24, 1960 – January 10, 2021

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Lorna (Lorrie) Anne Royston (nee Valentine) on January 10th, 2021 at the age of 60 years old. Lorrie was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and persisted through a nine-year battle that ended in early 2021.

Lorrie was born on May 24th, 1960 to Cynthia and Kenneth Valentine in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and raised in Pennant, Saskatchewan during her early years. Regrettably, her father was stricken with multiple sclerosis and passed away. In the years that followed, her mother went on to remarry Thomas (Jim) James Garrett and expand her family. By 1970, the family had settled into Olds.

As Lorrie grew up, she became a well-liked member of the community and fell in love with Thomas (Tom) Edward Royston. On November 4th, 1983 Lorrie and Tom married and began their family life, just outside of Olds on the Royston family farm. They were blessed with four children: Daniel, Teresa, Calvin, and Kenneth. Their home and farm was filled with the love and joy that she created. The farm formed an opportunity for each of her children to learn the value of hard work and dedication but most importantly, to explore and build cherished family memories. Her children spent their days building forts in the trees, jumping on the trampoline, and getting themselves into trouble that kept Lorrie on her toes.

As each of her children ventured off into adulthood, her love would always draw them back. Family gatherings were frequent and joyous occasions, filled with Lorrie’s home cooking and desserts. Among Lorries many talents, she was remarkable at baking, sewing, knitting, quilting and crafts, which can be found throughout her and her children’s homes to be cherished forever. Another of Lorrie’s affections was her love of animals, especially dogs. Her dogs were always close to her heart and she raised many litters of puppies. Above all else she enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She could often be found working on her crafts or in the kitchen with her headset on talking on the phone with one of her many friends or family members. Lorrie was a dedicated mother and wife, who lit up the room with her warmth and kindness. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and devotion to her family. We take comfort in knowing that she is at peace and spreading joy with her family in heaven. We know she will be with us in spirit as we pass down her quilts, recipes, and stories.

Lorrie is survived by her loving husband Tom; her son Daniel (his wife Tara & children Haidyn and Baili); daughter Teresa (children Dakota and Devin); son Calvin (his significant other Aida), son Kenneth (his wife Heather & child Elizabeth); her siblings Tracy, Jason, Carli and Brad and their families as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Kenneth and Cynthia; stepfather Thomas Garrett; brother David and nephew Peter. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Tom Baker Cancer Centre.  Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-507-8610  Condolences may be made or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
