PITKANEN, Isabelle -NEW

December 23, 1946 – July 9, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved mom, grandma, Nnana and friend, Isabelle Pitkanen aged 74.

She passed peacefully at the Calgary Rosedale Hospice, on July 9, 2021, after a quick and brave battle with cancer. Isabelle grew up and spent her entire life in Carstairs. One of four sisters, she was a gifted horse rider in her youth and a talented athlete. In later years she enjoyed competitive golf, curling and pickle ball, even participating at Nationals in Stick Curling.

Travelling was another passion. She visited Europe, Eastern Canada, Mexico, many places in the US and an unforgettable trip to Africa with Christine.  She focused on her children, grandchildren and friends. She brought joy & laughter to those around her. It was a better day with Isabelle in your company. Isabelle contributed immensely to her community and the town of Carstairs will miss her.

Isabelle was predeceased by her husband Garry Pitkanen in 2011 and sister Joyce Rasmussen in 2020.

She will be forever missed by her son Shawn (Rae-Lene), daughter Christine (Bruce), adored grandchildren Jace, Taya, Kai, Bodi and Taj, and sisters Phyllis Resta and Helen Hunter, along with all extended family and her many close friends.  Isabelle dedicated her life to family and friends. She gifted us all with her time, generosity, wisdom, humour and love.

HOW WONDERFUL!

How wonderful to find someone

Who makes your life worth living!

Someone kind and thoughtful,

Seldom taking, always giving.

How wonderful to learn the days

Are brighter when you’re sharing-

That there is no greater joy in life

Than loving, trusting, caring.

How wonderful to learn the art

Of living for each other!

For all the joys are doubled

When we share them with another.

How wonderful it is to meet

Someone just like you,

To have a person interested

In the things you do!

How wonderful it is to know

That someone understands

Your feelings and your actions,

And all you’ve dreamed and planned.

May you rest in peace Mom, Grandma, Nana, Isabelle and be reunited with the love of your life, Garry. Isabelle requested no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity close to her heart called, ‘Hope Mission’  https://hopemission.com Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Isabelle’s family through www.evanjstrong.com
