Leonard McKay of Olds passed away peacefully on July 17, 2021 at the age of 84 years.

He was born in Lloydminster but spent much of his life in rural west central Alberta and the Powell River region of B.C. He was a modest, humble and gentle man that loved nature, animals, dogs, cats, wild birds and especially his horses. Leonard was also a talented singer and musician who could play many instruments well, but his favorites were the guitar and harmonica. In his younger years, Leonard along with his father and sister, played at many local dances. He was also a very popular cowboy on the trail rides where he would entertain everyone with his playing and singing while he worked.

Leonard was a friendly, free spirited man who loved to visit and tell stories from his life experiences. He cherished and talked fondly about the animals and people he knew and cared for over the years. Inquisitive and outgoing by nature, Leonard placed a very high value on friendship and was considered “such a nice man” by his many friends and casual acquaintances. Any act of friendship toward Leonard was returned many times over in smiles, sincere appreciation and loyalty. He was also very respectful of others and careful not to offend anyone. For Leonard, a gift or a photo from a friend or family member was a highly valued possession.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Due to travel constraints, a small gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
