February 26, 1931 – October 25, 2022

While our world will miss this very special man we are at peace knowing he is now in a better place.  Hugh John Macklin passed away on October 25, 2022.  Dad, who went by  Jack, was born February 26, 1931  in Calgary, Alberta.  Jack was destined to be a farmer and he spent his whole life being a stewart of the land and making sure he did he best to look after what mother nature gave us.  He was always telling us to take care of the lands and be very aware of our use of water supply because it would not last forever, if we did not.  He advocated for this throughout his life.

Dad was fortunate to meet, marry and spend 62 years with Beverley Jane Schaal.    Jack and Bev had two children, Barbara Anne Maxwell  and Trevor John Macklin  who went on to give him 6 wonderful granddaughters, Lyndsay  Dettmer, Kathrine Maxwell (Panelli), Jacqueline Maxwell (Robinne), Breanna Macklin (Kelln), Brooke Macklin and Morgan Macklin. Dad also loved and cherished his son-in-law, Larry  Maxwell and daughter-in-law, Tammy Macklin (Ringland) . Dad has one brother Alec Macklin (Anne) and family.   There was no greater gift to Dad than his family.

Another one of Dad’s greatest gifts was his commitment to his community.  He served on many boards during his lifetime.  Dad was  one of the founders of the Foothill’s Natural Gas Co-op which he took great pride in helping to develop.

Dad always had time to teach us all the life skills with such patience.  We are all blessed to call him husband, Dad, Grampa and friend.  He will be forever missed but to those who truly knew him, his legacy carries on through stories and memories. If we all could  love, even a little like Jack did, the world would be a better place.   See you later, you were truly one of the good ones.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Jack can be made directly to STARS Air Ambulance or to the Olds Hospital.
