October 23, 1935 – May 4, 2022

Walter William Lutz passed away peacefully at the Olds Hospital on May 4, 2022 at the age of 86 years.

Walter was born at the Olds Hospital to parents William and Maria Lutz. Walter was the second oldest of 6 children. He attended Reed Ranch School east of Olds and helped on the family farm just south of the school. Walter was very proud of his sons, Brad, Shane and Kim. He enjoyed coaching hockey and was a member of the “Olds Krauts” ponychucks trio with Bud Herrle and Emil Weisner.

After an extended courtship, Walter and Carol were married at the Bowden United Church. They enjoyed 39 wonderful years together. Walter raised cattle and grew crops with Brad and Shane and more recently his 2 grandsons Mark and Nicolas who recently joined the farming operation full-time. Walter made daily trips to the farm to see what was happening right until the end. A strong, independent man, who didn’t want to cause any trouble for anyone (or interrupt seeding), he spent less than one day in the hospital, which was one too many.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Olds Hospital & Care Centre for the excellent care and keeping Walter comfortable. Walter was a big man with a big heart. He was loved and will be missed by the many lives he touched.

He is survived by his loving wife Carol; his 3 children Brad (Jennifer), Shane (Laurel), Kim (Lisa) all of Olds, 5 step-children Karen of Calgary, Kelly (David) of Phoenix, Camilla (John) of Innisfail, Carla of Penhold, Candace (Scott) of Edmonton and numerous, very precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walter is also survived by his siblings Erwin (Judy) Lutz of Calgary, Linda (Lloyd) Cunningham of Eckville, Sandra (Douglas) Reid of Cremona and sister-in-law Hilary Lutz of Olds as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Maria Lutz, sister Deloris (Frank) Fulton of Helena, Montana and brother Albert Lutz of Olds. At his request, there will be no service. Walter will be laid to rest at the Mayton Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of choice.  Condolences may be made or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
