August 6, 1941 - March 26, 2024

Ruth Delores Lowes, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 26, 2024, at the Olds Hospital. She was born August 6, 1941, along with her fraternal twin sister Mary to Hannah and Odin Lysager (deceased) in Rose Valley Saskatchewan. Shirley, Lenore (deceased), Phillip, and Joyce are her other siblings.

Mom graduated from Rose Valley High School and then went to work in Wadena, SK as a nurse's aide. She lived in the residences there while she saved money to go to nursing school. She was accepted into the Saskatoon City Hospital Nursing program which was three years long. Ruth made many lifelong friends during this time and up until her death she kept in contact with many of them. After she graduated from nursing school, she moved in with four of her classmates and worked at the hospital where she had done her training. During this time, she was set up on a very successful blind date.  She and Neil were married in Saskatoon on April 6th, 1965.  They had two children together, Stacey Lenore and Jason Neil. Ruth stayed home while their children were young and went back to her nursing career when they were both in school. By this time Neil was in the RCMP and this required him (and his family) to transfer to different postings. Ruth’s career spanned over 45 years working in Assiniboia, Picture Butte, Lloydminster, Westlock, Vegreville, and Olds Alberta where she and Neil retired.

Ruth’s favorite activity was traveling, and she LOVED it!  She and Neil had the privilege of experiencing many different countries and cultures. These included the USA (Arizona, California, Alaska, Hawaii and the east coast) Norway, Mexico, England, Scotland, Ireland, Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Additionally, she camped with Neil north to the Yukon, throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan as well as into the southern United States. Ruth and Neil built a cabin at Loon Lake Saskatchewan and spent many joyful summers there. Ruth loved hosting family and friends at the cabin. Some of her favorite times were spent on the boat watching her grandchildren tube and kneeboard.

Ruth will be missed by so very many people including her grandchildren Victoria, Sophie, Hudson, and Rowan.

Ruth’s Celebration of Life will be held on April 27, 2024, at the Pomeroy Inn and Suites in Olds Alberta from 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in her name to the LBD (Lewy Body Dementia) Research Fund & Donations. The LBD Research Fund & Donations.
