It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gail Lynn Lewis (nee Dykes) in Red Deer, Alberta, surrounded by her loved ones, on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the age of 75 years.

Gail had such a witty sense of humor. She enjoyed gardening, reading, magazines, shopping and traveling, and was known to be a jazz extraordinaire. Gail wouldn’t turn away a good cup of coffee, especially if it was by the lake in Sylvan, where she has resided for the last five and a half years. Gail was involved with the Wild Rose Draft Horse Association, an active member in her church, and supervised many events with great precision, up until her health made it difficult to continue.

She will be forever missed by her loving son, Douglas Sparrow (Shannon) and her loving sisters, Cheryl Pyne and Dorothy Edmundson, her grandchildren, Morgan and Blake Sparrow, Seth and Jared Gecse, and her little poodle, Lexi. She will also be sadly missed by her nieces, Colleen Whitley (Rob), Karen Park (Jason), her cousins, Rosemund Woodworth (Alden), Daryle Kerr (Kathy), and Paul Dykes (Joann), JoEllen Stevens, Kendra Curry (Wayne) and their families, and her many friends.

Gail was the eldest daughter of Tom and Phyllis Dykes, who predeceased her in 2013; as well as her brothers-in-law, Jim Edmundson, and Dale Pyne in 2011.

A Celebration of Gail’s Life will be held at the Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. (in her favorite season, Spring). If desired, Memorial Donations in Gail’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice at www.reddeerhospice.com. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Red Deer Hospice. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
