January 11, 1933 - October 1, 2023

Gordon Kary went to his eternal home October 1, 2023, at the age of 92. He was born in Hanna, Alberta on January 11, 1933, to Ronald and Emily Kary. They farmed in the Hand Hills area for several years until moving to Torrington. In 1944 they made another move to the Olds homestead where he completed his high school education in town. Upon graduation, he continued to farm with his dad.

Gordon was very active and enjoyed numerous hobbies and passions which included baseball and curling. He was an accomplished pitcher and would often reminisce of the time he pitched an eighteen-inning game. He also had an interest in aviation and obtained his pilot’s license, going on to build his own plane with several friends.

As a young boy, Gordon accepted God’s gift of salvation to him and was baptized at East Olds Baptist Church in 1945. Gordon became a member of Olds First Baptist Church in January 1946. Later, as a young man, he rededicated his life to the Lord and then made the decision to attend the Baptist Leadership Training School in Calgary in the fall of 1954. He was part of a men’s quartet which involved travel throughout western Canada. It was during this time, lifelong friendships were made with Nis Schmidt, Bud Philips, and Ronald Watson.

After completing his year at Bible School, he pastored Northmount Baptist Church in Calgary for several years until he felt called to return to the farm to work alongside his dad. From that time on he was a full-time farmer but continued his lay preaching throughout central Alberta for various churches and for many years. He loved to study and read and was well respected for his ability to expound the Word of God.

He met the love of his life and on June 18, 1960, Rosemary and Gordon were married. This was the beginning of a love story which lasted for 63 years until his passing. They were blessed with four children: Trevor (1962), Miles (1964), Marlin (1966), and Melody (1967). His desire was to raise his family in a godly home. Seeing his children and now his grandchildren continue their faith with some pursuing full-time ministry brought great joy and gratitude to his heart.

Gordon and Rosemary stayed on the farm until moving to their acreage in town in 1992. He continued to farm with Trevor and Miles and enjoyed his time working alongside his sons and grandsons. His faith has taken him through the years to his last and final move home with his Lord and Savior-an eternal home where he will never move from again.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife Rosemary, four children: Trevor of Olds, Alberta, Miles (Doris) of Olds, Alberta, Marlin (Cori) of Trochu, Alberta, Melody (Nelson) of Calgary, Alberta. As well as thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Ken (Frances) of Phoenix, Arizona. He was predeceased by his parents Ronald and Emily Kary, and daughter-in-law, Esther Kary.
