February 5, 1953 – February 13, 2024

With sadness we announce the passing of Keven Richard Holmes of Water Valley, Alberta, formerly of Rimbey, Alberta.  Keven passed away peacefully at the Olds Hospital and Care Centre on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the age of 71 years.

Keven was born on February 5, 1953 in Benito, Manitoba to Bernard “Bernie” and Madeline Holmes.  He spent the first seventeen years of his life on the family farm near Bowsman, Manitoba.  Keven moved with his family in January of 1970 to Airdrie, Alberta, where he began his career as a house builder and carpenter working with his dad.  He later formed Holmes Brothers Construction with his brother Garry, with many homes being built by the boys in the Airdrie, Sundre, and Rimbey areas.  On November 15, 1975, Keven was united in marriage to Lois Bartholow in Sundre, and it was here that their first two children, Chad and Angela, were born.  The family moved to Rimbey in September, 1979, where they were welcomed into the community and where their youngest son Curtis was born.  They enjoyed raising their three children in Rimbey.  After retiring from house building, Keven was the manager of the Co-op Service Station for several years.  He made two more moves, first to Wetaskiwin after Lois passed away, and then to Water Valley where he built a beautiful home on his son’s farm in 2021.

Keven leaves to mourn, his loving companion Deb Lee; and his three children, son Chad (Tammy) Holmes; daughter Angela (Steve) Luchak; and son Curtis Holmes.  His grandchildren meant the world to him, and they will miss him dearly:  Megan, Emma, and Breanna Luchak; Curtis Glanfield; and Louella, Lily, Londyn, and Corben Holmes.  He was also very close to Deb’s family, Travis (Kristina) Lee; Macie Birdy; son-in-law Dino; along with nine grandchildren.  As well, Keven leaves behind his sister Daylene (Steve) Shaw of Black Diamond, Alberta; the Bartholow families; in addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends galore who knew what a wonderful, kind, and loving man Keven was.  He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Lois; sister Sherry; brother Garry; and Deb’s daughter Brenna Lee.

A Celebration of Keven’s Life will be held in late June, 2024.  He will be laid to rest in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey at a later date.  Condolence messages may be forwarded to the family by visiting:  www.ofc–ltd.ca  Cremation Arrangements for the Late Keven Richard Holmes entrusted to the care of Oberhammer Funeral Chapels Ltd.
