We are saddened, but grateful for his life well-lived, to share that Willis Clair Fischer passed on February 25 at the age of ninety-four. Born on April 8th 1927 in Didsbury, Clair was the fourth child born to Henry and Emma Fischer. He lived most of his life on the family farm west of Didsbury. Clair, along with his four siblings, attended school at Clovermount School and then he continued his high school in Didsbury. Upon graduation, he moved to Calgary to further studies at Tech (now called SAIT). Farming was his passion, so he returned home to farm with his father.

At a dance at Melvin Hall, Clair met a lovely lady, Kathleen Thomas and they were married on March 21st 1953. At this time, the senior Fischers moved in to town and Kay and Clair took over the family farm. As well as farming, they enjoyed dancing, traveling, camping and visiting and hosting large family gatherings. Family was the most important aspect of his life and he left an enduring legacy through his children and grandchildren. Clair was a man of integrity, compassion, honesty, hard work and strong moral character. He was such a kind man who never had a bad word for anyone. Clair was a life-time member of the Didsbury Lions Club, an elder in Knox United Church and a board member of the Development Appeals Committee for the County and also served on the Alberta Agriculture Appeals Committee. He was a founding member and a director of the Foothills Gas Co-op. Always ready and willing to help others, he was a well-respected member of the community and was known as a great neighbour and friend to all.

Clair was a devoted husband and will be greatly missed by Kay, his wife of nearly sixty-nine years. He is also survived by his daughter Pam (Vair), his son Glen (Brenda), his daughter Denise, and his son Paul (Brenda). Missing him greatly will be his grandchildren Drew, Robyn, Josh (Chelsea), Andre, Marie, Nicki (Codi), Ryan, Adrian, Lisa (John), and Laura Lee (Marlin). He leaves behind his great-grandchildren Jesse, Alexandra, Randilee, Harley, Willis, Quinn, Cheyenne, Ayva, Parker and Talon. He is survived by one brother, Raymond Fischer of Didsbury and his sister-in-law Barb Fischer of California and many nieces and nephews.

Clair was predeceased by his parents Henry and Emma and his brothers Lloyd and Ron and his sister Erna McCafferty as well as his granddaughter, Donita Whitlow. The family sends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Aspen Ridge Lodge for the loving care they have given to Clair throughout his time as a resident and especially through his final days. In keeping with Clair’s wishes, there will be no funeral. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Aspen Ridge Lodge or the charity of one’s choice. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Didsbury entrusted with arrangements. 403-335-4773 Condolences may be made or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com.
