February 22, 1946 - February 5, 2022

It is with deep, deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Twila, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, at the age of 75 years at the Rockyview Lodge in Crossfield, Alberta.

Twila was born at the General Hospital in Calgary, Alberta – almost in the back seat of a taxi, to William and Vera Horne.  Even then, she was in a hurry!  She started school at Stanley Jones and moved with her family to her maternal Grandfather’s (William Eickmeier) farm, east of Olds, upon his passing.  There she attended Maycity School and graduated from Olds Jr.-Sr. High School.

Calgary called her back and would remain her home until 2013 when she moved to the Rockyview Lodge in Crossfield.  Here she thrived and made many friendships.  She was loved and liked by all residents and staff.

Twila had an unbeatable work ethic, always up to the task, and more, put before her.  She could run circles around everyone she encountered during a work day.  ‘Slow’ was not a word in her vocabulary.

She endured her share and more, of adversities and challenges throughout her life, but, faced them with strength and tenacity – triple by-pass heart surgery, leg amputation, shingles, Covid - to name but a few.  It was extremely difficult for her to accept, and understandably so, the limitations imposed on her of losing a limb and eventually being confined to a wheelchair, where she once had been so very, very active.  An easy life she did not have but she persevered.  She was definitely not a “quitter”.

May she now rest in peace free of pain, suffering and worry.

Twila is survived by her son Dwayne (Carole), grandson Brian (Cassidy) great-grandson Henry, granddaughter Kate, son Daniel (Laura), grandsons Cody, Dylan, Kyle and granddaughter Kayla.

She also leaves brothers Dennis (Georgetta) Horne, Laverne (Dorothy) Horne, sister Rosalynn (Wayne) Starkes, as well as nieces, nephews along with great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Gone, but, never, never forgotten.

We all were given the gift of having you in our lives!

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the spring.
