It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Ruby Jean Easton residing in Newport Harbour Senior Centre on August 10, 2023.

Ruby spent the first 17 years of her life on the Family Farm in Westcott – a hamlet outside of Didsbury. At 17, Ruby took her Certified Nurses Aide Training in Pincher Creek. While working in the Innisfail Hospital she met George W. Easton who was stationed in the army at Penhold. They were married in 1964 and moved to different locations where George was stationed. They were blessed with two sons: George (Jr) and Scott.

When George retired from the army, the family moved back to Ruby’s hometown of Didsbury where Ruby resumed nursing until 1988. Ruby enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. She loved being a grandma to Scott’s two boys: Brandon and Jesse.

After George passed away in October of 2017, Ruby filled her time with family and friends. She remained in the family home until February 2023 when her health started failing. She went into long-term care at the Newport Harbour Care Centre in Calgary and spent her last days there.

Ruby leaves to mourn her two sons, George Easton Jr., (wife Cindy); Scott Easton, (wife Miriam); grandsons, Brandon Easton and Jesse Easton; dear friend Kathy Chorneyko; two Goddaughters, Michelle (Ed) Barden and Teresa (John) Gordon; brother Gary Tohm; sister Lyla (Jerry) Peterson and many other family and friends.

Ruby was predeceased by her husband, George W. Easton, her father Willard Tohm, and mother Violet Tohm (Engel).

A Funeral Service was held on August 18, 2023, at the Knox United Church and Ruby was interned at the Didsbury Cemetery with her husband, George.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Mountain Rose Women’s Shelter, Box 325, Rocky Mountain House, AB T4T1A3 or on-line at www.mrwsa.net.
