July 8, 1929 – October 29, 2021

It is with heavy hearts and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary (Betty) Elizabeth Dunphy October 29, 2021 at the age of 92 years old surrounded by family at her bedside.

Betty was born in Calgary on July 8, 1929 and was the oldest child and only daughter born to Jean & Lawrence Bergeson.  Being the oldest and a girl, she had her hands full looking after her five younger brothers.

She was raised in the Calgary, Sundre and Cremona areas where she learned the meaning of responsibility, the value of a dollar and hard work from a very young age.  She later moved to the Grande Prairie and Teepee Creek area to be closer with her oldest daughter and family. She found employment with Alberta Forestry where she built many friendships that lasted her lifetime.

Betty had the most generous and giving heart and always cherished time spent with her family and friends. She never forgot a birthday or an event and was very thoughtful to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.  Everybody who stopped by knew that she made a good cup of coffee; but the conversations were even better.

Betty’s family were her absolute pride and joy, always putting their needs before her own. Although her siblings & their families lived far away, she always kept in close touch with phone calls.

Betty was predeceased by her first husband Norman Whitlow, and her second husband Joseph Dunphy.  Parents Lawrence and Jean Bergeson, son Fredrick Whitlow and her brothers Clifford, Leonard and Jim Bergeson.

She is fondly remembered by daughters Judy (Bill) and Joan (Garry).  Dear Grandma to Warren (Joanne), Denise (Con), Dean (Patti), Derek (Heather) & Karen (Trevor) and their families. Step-daughter Sandy and step-son Brian (Grace).  Also, siblings Lester Bergeson, Robert (Beverly) Bergeson of Cremona and sister-in-law Marion Bergeson of Calgary along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

With her strong will and determination, she remained independently in her cute and cozy home up until her passing.  We truly feel blessed to have enjoyed her for so long.

You will be loved always and forever.  May flights of angels sing you to your rest, Mum.

Cheerio Grandma!

At Betty’s request, there will be no funeral service.
