Mary Deisman - Obituary

March 11, 1946 - February 8, 2021

Mary Alice Deisman (nee Thomson), 74 of Olds, Alberta, passed away February 8, 2021, from a complication of Alzheimer’s Disease. Mary was born March 11, 1946 in Swalwell, Alberta.

Mary attended Delmar College in Calgary in 1964 at age 18. Hairdressing was her chosen career that lasted 44 years. She worked at nine salons and owned two of them - in Canmore in 1967-1971 and Jaime's Coiffures in Olds 1980-2007. Former employees describe her as a great boss, compassionate, a friend.

Mary was always active. She volunteered for many years with Citizens on School Patrol, the Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary, and sang with Fred & Friends and the Presbyterian Church Choir. Interests included family history, square dancing, reading and games. She spent much time loving/helping many family members in their senior years. In her retirement she enjoyed several winters down south and trips with siblings. She loved her home in Olds. Her house fit her perfectly and was a great place to display family treasures and antiques. It was a place to host family dinners, which had to include group hugs and back scratches.

Mary was predeceased by her son Daniel Corrie (2014), parents Wylie (2008) and Helen Thomson (2000), sister Dian Layton (2019), nephew Jason (1987), great-niece Melissa (1998), sister-in-law Merlene (2002) and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Mourning her passing are her husband of 28 years, Robert Deisman of Olds, granddaughter Danielle Corrie of Granisle, BC, step-daughter Diane (Harry) Jones of Edmonton, step-daughter Jenny Deisman of Edmonton, brother Jim Thomson of Olds, sister Florence Thomson of Olds, brother Brian (Connie) Thomson of Red Deer, brother-in-law Barry Layton of Red Deer, and nieces and nephews Bradley (Jodi), Jeffery (Jessica), Joy (JD), Ryan (Sarah), Karissa (Garrick), Brayden (Candace), Ben,  John, and many great-nieces and nephews.

Mary was in long term care nine years, the last eight in Olds. The family sincerely thanks Dr. Gert Nel and staff. Memorial tributes may be made to the Olds Hospital and Care Centre - Long Term Care.

Interment at Hainstock Cemetery, Olds, Alberta.
