             1938-2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Vern Conners announce his passing in Sundre, Alberta on June 23, 2023, at the age of 84.

Vern was born on October 25, 1938, in Wardlow, Alberta to Lawrence and Irene Conners. In 1944, they bought the family farm and relocated to Bergen, Alberta where Vern attended Bergen school for the first 8 years of his education. Finishing his education at Sundre school.

Vern held various positions throughout his life, starting off working for a local gentleman felling/limbing trees. As he was paid by tree, he very quickly learned how to succeed in this very fast-paced position. He eventually moved away from this and got a job with another local gentleman working on a sawmill. He must have enjoyed this, as later in life he would start up his own sawmill on the farm.

Vern also spent time delivering supplies for the Bergen store. He delivered everything from groceries to lumber, some of these trips taking a full day. He later spent time in the oilfield, running his own CAT, brush clearing in the Peace River area, but his passion was always vehicles and engines. So, he continued his education as an apprentice for an automotive mechanic. After a combined 27 years of service with Sundre Motors he retired from this profession, but he continued his passion by working on small engines in his garage at home.

His favorite past time was fishing and camping. He would only go camping so he could go fishing. Some of his favorite spots were Stoney Creek, Teepee Pole Creek, or the Halling. Vern enjoyed being outdoors, especially the west country taking in all that nature has to offer. His hobbies were tinkering with engines and building machines for fun, such as the "The Wheely Barrow" he built for himself.

Vern will be deeply missed by his longtime partner Lillian Wise. His son Phil (Maryanne) and his daughter Shelly. Lillian’s son Tim (Linda) and her daughter Laurie (Lloyd). His grandchildren, Krystal (Mike), Landon (Mhay), Alyssa (Chris), Darcie (Colin), Cassie (Jeremy), and Victoria (Brandon). His great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Dustin, Joseph, Emma, Devon, Maximus, and Abigail.

In lieu of flowers or donations please take a moment to embrace your loved ones, as time with them is precious and all too short. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
