It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Leonard Laurie Brandson at the age of 80 years. Leonard passed away after a short courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Stauffer, Alberta on the farm and remained there until moving to Innisfail to apprentice at the John Deere dealership. In 1967 he married Margaret Marks. They became a young family in 1967, when Kevin was born, and then in 1968 moved to Olds where Christopher was born shortly after in 1969. Leonard worked at both the John Deere dealership and Fullerton International in Olds after which he formed a partnership to become G & L Service. Years later, he and Lynn Lamb formed a partnership that would last 37 years with the Bumper to Bumper/Motorcar franchise.

Leonard was a member of the Olds Fire Department for over 50 years and was Fire Chief for twelve of these years. Leonard was honored for his fifty years service in 2018 by receiving the Fire Exemplary Service medal from honorable Lois Mitchell, the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. He was also a member of the Olds Legion, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and Olds Evergreens and a past member of Citizens on Patrol. The Central Alberta chapter of Muscular Dystrophy was an organization which he helped form with his first wife Margaret in 1989.

Leonard is survived my his loving wife Linda; sons Christopher and  Kevin (Caressa); and grandchildren, Candice and Chance; brother Ellery (Pat) Brandson; sisters-in-law, Marie (Ivan) Jensen and Eva (Gene) Fritsch; brother-in-law Rolf Petersen; Linda’s family, Marianne (Brad) Dowell; Bruce (Jennifer) Ross and Jason Ross; sisters-in-law Helen Jorgensen and Heather (Bill) Watson; brothers-in-law, Bob Fisher, Jim (Linda) Fisher; six grandchildren, their spouses and four great-grandchildren. As well as many nieces and nephews.

Leonard was predeceased by his first wife Margaret in 2007, sisters Louise Petersen and Phyllis and Glen Kneiper; his mother and father, Lula and Johann Brandson.
