1935-2022

Allan Russell Archibald passed away in Innisfail, Alberta on September 27, 2022 at the age of 87 years.

Allan was born July 8, 1935, to Myrtle and Wally Archibald in the Aberdeen District east of Innisfail. Allan attended the Aberdeen School completing grade 8, then quitting to help on the farm. He moved to Calgary for work for a few years, but the farm life drew him back to the Aberdeen District. Allan married Penny Daines and together with his brother Joe, set up their farming operation. Joe retired from farming some time later and Allan and Penny with daughter Dodie continued with their mixed farm of sheep, hogs, chickens, cattle, grain, hay and of course horses. Allan competed in pony chuckwagon races, training his own teams and building his own wagons. He was also a A.I. Technician and serviced the cattle operations and dairies around Central Alberta. Allan was the best neighbor, often helping with neighbor’s harvests before completing his own. He was also the best “go to” if a Vet was not available, actually he was the best all around “Go To”: plumbing, electrical, mechanical, welding or carpentry. He was able to do it all as well as being an excellent wheel wright. Allan was a natural with animals and had many faithful dogs and horses. He was a kind, gentle and generous man, where the coffee was always on and will be sadly misses by so many.

Allan was predeceased by his parents: mother Myrtle nee: McBride and father Wally Archibald, sister Eveline Steen and more recently in July his beloved partner and wife Penny.

Allan is survived by his daughter Dodie, brothers: Joe and Harry; sister and brother-in-law Ronnie and Ron, nieces: Diane, Debbie, and Rhonda; nephew Darryl plus many many loving friends.

A Funeral Service for Allan will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Innisfail on October 5, 2022, at 1:00 PM with Interment to follow at the Innisfail Cemetery, Innisfail, Alberta.

Memorial donations in Allan’s name may be made to the Red Deer Hospice at 99 Arnot Ave, Red Deer, Alberta T4R 3S6
