MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Council has approve a development permit for a project that would see a western retail store addition for trailer showroom and warehouse storage at a riding arena in the Wessex area on the county’s south side.

The approval came by way of motion at a recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held in person and online.

The $160,000 project is located at the existing riding arena, located on the west side of Range Road 292, about two kilometres north of Township Road 292.

The proposed building size is 8,400 square feet and is located in the 22.34 acre direct control district.

“This proposal is to expand the exiting retail area by an additional 8,400 square foot building to the south of the building complex, within the area where the outdoor riding arena was located, to provide a trailer showroom and warehouse storage space,” administration said in a briefing note to council.

The application for development permit was circulated to adjacent landowners and no comments were received back, council heard.

The permit approval come with a number of conditions, including that the “appearance, design and construction of the addition to the existing western retail facility shall complement the design of the existing development” and that the “applicant, landowner and/or operator shall adhere to all site regulations contained within the Direct Control District, including the hours of operation for the business.”
