MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The county is “willing and ready” to work cooperatively with recently re-elected MLAs in the district for the overall benefit of area residents and the community-at-large, says reeve Angela Aalbers.

The UCP won a second straight majority government on May 29, with all three area UCP MLA incumbents returned with wide majorities.

Those MLAs are Nathan Cooper in Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills, Devin Dreeshen in Innisfail-Sylvan Lake, and Jason Nixon in Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre.

Both Cooper and Nixon’s ridings include parts of Mountain View County.

“Mountain View County is always willing and ready to work with any government in Alberta to find solutions and efficiencies in dealing with issues that impact our residents,” Aalbers told the Albertan

She commended all those candidates who sought election in area ridings and congratulated the winners.

Going forward the county hopes to build on relationships already well established with MLAs Nixon and Cooper, she said.

“We have had a very collaborative and respectful relationship with both MLA Cooper and MLA Nixon in the past and look forward to building the relationship even stronger in the upcoming years,” she said.

“The more municipal and provincial governments work together, the better our ratepayers are served.”

Over the next four years the municipality hopes to “work collaboratively (with the new government) on issues that impact county residents that are related to provincial policy,” she said.

“The county will continue to seek clarity from the province on renewable energy policies regarding land use planning and jurisdiction over approvals as well as reclamation securities to protect future taxpayers, confirmation of a fair and sustainable local government fiscal framework, clarity on policing moving forward, and economic development opportunities.”
