MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has passed the 2021 tax rate bylaw, which calls for taxes to remain virtually unchanged from 2020.
“There’s never been a better time to try to keep the tax rates where they are,” said Mountain View County Reeve Bruce Beattie. “We have been able to maintain our services. We are in good shape from a financial perspective.
“I think it is important that we keep the dollars in the jeans of our residents. We don't need to have it in our bank. We’ve got adequate reserves right now. I think for this year it's a good decision.”
The approval came by way of motion at the April 28 regularly scheduled council meeting, two week after council approved the 2021 budget calling for total expenses of $36,286,643, down from $40,817,074 in 2020.
A tax bill can be calculated by dividing the assessment by 1,000 and then multiplying the result by the mill rate.
The 2021 residential mill rate has been set at 2.9478, down slightly from 2.9629 in 2020. The farmland rate is 8.3178, down from 8.3329 last year, while the non-residential/linear rate its 10.4970, up slightly from 10.3629 in 2020.
The total amount raised though general municipal taxation in 2021 is projected to be $29,811,656, including $522,500 to cover the anticipated expenses of policing from the province, and a total taxation of $43,914,611.
Total assessment in 2021 is $4,595,052,560, including $158,390,380 on farmland, $226,034,550 on non-residential, $2,394,275,760 on residential, and $1,189,472,950 on non-non-residential linear.
The Alberta School Foundation Fund residential and farmland rate is 2.5150 and the non-residential rate is 3.7973.
The Mountain View Seniors' Housing rate is 0.3744, and the designated industrial property rate is 0.0766, while the provincial policing rate is 0.1137 in all categories.
