MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The county has lifted the fire restriction it imposed on burning in the municipality two weeks ago, officials said Monday.

Effective immediately there are no bans or restrictions in place.

“The public is urged to exercise caution while burning and use precautionary measures such as screens and spark arrestors on burning barrels, cultivated area surrounding controlled burns and have a supply of water readily available at all times,” said Jeff Holmes, Mountain View County's chief administrative officer.

Under the previous fire restriction order put in place Oct. 12, the only fires permitted were cooking food using a barbecue, fires contained with an acceptable fire pit or acceptable fireplace, burning burnable debris in an acceptable burning barrel, fires set by fire services for training purposes, fires that were fuelled by compressed gas, recreational fires, and any fire deemed by a district fire chief to not require a permit.

Fire permits are required year-round and can be obtained by calling the county office or visiting the county’s website at mountainviewcounty.com.
