Local high school rodeo athletes off to Nationals, Canadians

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Local high school students did very well at the Alberta High School Rodeo Finals in Stettler on June 2-4.

Hannan Sheehan of Carstairs ended up second in the province in barrel racing and is now off to Gillette, Wyoming and Brandon, Manitoba to represent Alberta at Nationals and Canadians respectively.

Brayden Steffler from Cremona ended up fifth in the province in bareback riding and is also off to Nationals and Canadians.

Glen Erickson from Sundre endured up fifth in bull riding but was not chosen to attend Nationals or Canadians.

Ericka Webb ended up third in pole bending and will also be attending Nationals and Canadians.

Other local competitors included Cremona’s Cassidy McArthur (barrel racing), Levi Hunter of Sundre (tie down and team roping), Jayce McKean of Cremona (tie down and team roping), and Olds’ Maddison Levangie (pole bending).

“We are proud of all our local kids and it is quite an achievement to make the top 12 in our district to attend provincial,” said Patricia McKean, board chair of the Alberta High School Rodeo Association. “Alberta is the fourth largest state/province for membership in the National High School Rodeo Association.”
